World Trade Centre for Tema

The Tema Development Corporation (TDC) and Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) have decided to jointly establish a World Trade Village Centre to promote tourism in the municipality.

The Centre, to be sited on the Meridian Line at the Tema coastalbeach where Longitude Zero Degree passes, forms part of the secondphase of development of the Tema Municipality.

Madam Elizabeth Mansa Banson, Acting Managing Director of TDC,made this known on Saturday after a five-hour massive clean-up exerciseorganised by the TDC/TMA as part of activities marking the Fifth Anniversary of Tema as a planned city.

The exercise, which also climaxed the sanitation week and was heavily patronised, involved workers of the two organisations, voluntary youth associations and residents of the various communities.

For the first time in many years, all the pavements in the heart of city stretching from the dilapidated Meridian Hotel through the harbour streets to the end of the Accra-Tema Motorway, were white washed.

The exercise also involved the desilting of gutters, sweeping of the streets and clearing of weedy surroundings. Mr Kofi Demetia, Director of Personnel of the TDC and Coordinator of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee Programme, said the clean-up exercise would be sustained to make Tema regain its past glory.
