Work on Western rail lines to commence soon – Minister

The Minister for Railways says that government has released some monies for the construction of the Western rail lines, adding that work will commence soon.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Joe Ghartey mentioned that aside the western railways, the ministry is still in talks with the government for the release of funds for the construction of the rail way lines of the other regions.

He added that the government has asked the ministry to start the process of choosing an Engineering Procurement and Construction Contractor to start the Western line rails.

According to him, there is no iota of truth in the speculation that the ministry has secured GHC7 million to construct the rails, adding that Ghana’s relationship with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) does not permit such grants.

“The Western railway lines will begin very soon, as the ministry holds talks on the commencement of the construction of the other railway lines,” he said.
