WB, AfDB support AGRF with $300m

Local Organisers of the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) have announced an ambitious target of 100 million dollars’ worth of business opportunities for Ghanaian Entrepreneurs in the Agricultural Sector.

This is coming at a time Ghana will for the second time host what is considered the World’s most important and impactful Forum for African Agriculture later in September this year.

The confirmation of Ghana to host the event after nine years coincides with a year since the passing former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan who was first Chairperson of the Forum.

Foster Boateng a Member of the Local Organising Committee told journalist that in 2016 the World Bank (WB) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) released an amount of $300m to support agriculture on the continent.

“This will bring a lot of investors, private sector people to broker deals with their fellow partners in Ghana,” he said.

He added : “We are looking forward to securing about $100m dollar deal in the deal room in this coming AGRF.

“In 20016 in Kenya we were able to mobilise over $300m towards agriculture. Some of those were coming from the World Bank and the African Development bank. All the multilateral and bilateral they come to deal to show where they can support.”

The event is expected to attract more than 2,000 Delegates, including current and former Heads of State, Agriculture and Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors.
