Vodafone Group CEO Visits Country

The Vodafone Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Vittorio Colao, paid a day's working visit to Ghana on Thursday 4th December 2009.

The visit was primarily focused on supporting the management team of Vodafone in Ghana, and to better understand the market challenges and opportunities in Ghana.

Whilst in the country, Vittorio visited the Vodafone Call Centre to hear the voices of customers. He also visited the Accra North fixed line telephone exchange at Accra North, currently undergoing very significant modernisation.

Vittorio hosted a lunch with high achievers drawn from staff of the company.

A durbar of staff drawn from all regions of Ghana was also held, during which he was thrilled by a performance of song and dance by staff celebrating Vodafone as the "Employer of Choice".

He was a guest of honour at an exclusive cocktail event, hosted by David Venn, CEO of Vodafone Ghana.

Vittorio said, "I am very impressed by the very significant turnaround being undertaken by the management and staff of Vodafone in Ghana. Vodafone has already had a very significant positive impact on the Ghanaian communications market, and I am certain there is much more to come. Vodafone Group is fully committed to ensuring that the business in Ghana is very successful, and I am proud that Vodafone is a valuable contributor to the Ghanaian economy. As Vodafone succeeds in Ghana, it should encourage other international businesses to invest in the market."

He added, "I believe that the partnership between Vodafone and the Government of Ghana will be a strong and successful one, delivering great value over time, to both shareholders."
