Ghana has signed a new visa waiver agreement with Antigua and Barbuda, allowing passport holders from both countries to travel without visas.

The agreement was sealed on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who led Ghana’s delegation, described the deal as a major step toward deepening bilateral ties.

He expressed gratitude to his counterpart, HEEP Chet Greene, Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs, for his role in reaching the milestone.

“This is the 10th Visa Waiver Agreement secured for Ghanaians since assuming office as Foreign Minister,” Ablakwa shared in a post on X on September 25, 2025.

According to him, the John Dramani Mahama administration is intentional about strengthening the value of the Ghanaian passport, enhancing the country’s global image, and improving the travel experience of its citizens.

He added that the initiative will also advance Ghana’s trade and tourism agenda while creating stronger connections with the Caribbean.

“This particular agreement connects us to our brothers and sisters in the Caribbean,” Ablakwa noted.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, however, added that it remains committed to negotiating additional visa waiver deals to expand opportunities for Ghanaians globally.
