Officials from the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) are reportedly being deployed to the Tema Harbour to inspect vehicles before they are cleared.
In a video sighted on X on 28 March 2026, some individuals were seen inspecting a vehicle at the port, with “Interpol” clearly written on the back of their uniforms.
This has fuelled speculation that the officials have been deliberately stationed at the port to check vehicles for possible theft before allowing them to be cleared.

The measure is believed to be part of enhanced security efforts aimed at curbing the importation of stolen vehicles into the country, with offenders potentially facing prosecution.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has also intensified its crackdown on individuals found to have purchased stolen vehicles from abroad.
Meanwhile, Tema Harbour authorities are yet to publicly address the allegations or clarify whether the deployment is official and the reasons behind the measure.
INTERPOL is the world’s largest international police organisation, with 196 member countries. Headquartered in Lyon, France, it facilitates cross-border police cooperation by enabling law enforcement agencies worldwide to share data and combat terrorism, cybercrime, and organised crime, while also supporting border security efforts.
