VW unveils first pickup

Volkswagen has unveiled its first pickup in the one-ton segment in West Africa nation of Ghana. The new Amarok is selling for $34, 315 and is specially designed to entertain the rough roads of Africa.

The elegant looking Amarok, which means the wolf, comes with strength, robustness, endurance and superiority. According to the RSS Manager for Africa Gianni Gallinaro, the vehicle has “extremely low fuel consumption, largest load area and broadest loading width.”

Other highlights of the Amarok include highest maximum payload, high torque of up to 400 Nm, 2 types of drive available: rear-wheel and shiftable 4MOTION drive, ABS/ASR/EDL as standard and ESP including hill start/hill descend assist and trailer stabilization available as an option for all models.

The German Ambassador to Ghana Eberhard Schanze described the vehicle as “a toy for an old man.” As a lover of VW vehicles, he was full of praise for the Amarok adding “VW is a trendy vehicle when it comes to design.”

The Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Daniel Asiedu remarked the Amarok “is a major deviation from the traditional pickups.”

The new Amarok is available for purchase through Universal Motors Ltd, the sole authorized distributor of Volkswagen vehicles in Ghana.
