The Sunyani Technical University Chapter of the Technical University Workers Association (TUWAG) has called for the review of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) to benefit low income earners in the public service.

According to Mr Kofi Abrefa, the chapter Chairman, basic monthly salaries of junior staff at the university under the government pay policy remained insignificant hence the need for increment.

Speaking at a send-off party for the association’s retired members, held in Sunyani, Mr Abrefa called on the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to push the 10 percent annual increment of public worker wages to at least 15 percent to benefit low income earners.

The association presented refrigerators and other items to the seven retirees.

Mr Abrefa decried what he described as a wide salary gap and condition of service between junior and senior staff in the public service under the SSSS, and called on the University to increase medical allowances of staff from the GHC200 to GHC400.

Professor Engineer Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, the Vice-Chancellor of the STU, commended the association for recognising the hard-work and contributions of the retired members and advised active members to work hard for the growth of the university.
