Univeral Motors launches new 2019 VW 'Touareg'

Universal Motors Limited, a major Ghanaian automobile distributor has unveiled a new model of Volkswagen called the ‘Touareg’ in Accra.

The launch which came off on Friday, November 8, took place at the company’s ultramodern showroom at Accra North, Ghana.

The event saw Operations Manager of Universal Motors Limited, Mo Akkad unwrap a new design styled SUV set to hit the local market.

Ms Akkad stated that the new ‘Touareg’ is a people’s car, combining the joy of driving with safety assets for passengers and surroundings.

“The new Touareg which comes with a fresh face with more powerful and distinguished body lines that add an ‘‘air of sophistication and modernity”. It is 44mm wider and 77mm longer; its boasts a large 810L boot space. Also has the grunt numbers to help it haul a big load, towing up to 3500kg for a braked trailer,” she said.

The new model which stands for safety, family and adventure without limitation is proven to be capable, reliable and has the ability to provide comfort.

According to Akkad, “the ‘beast’ Touareg has an engine output set at 190kW, (335breakhp) and 600Nm (at 2250rpm). Also its bonnet has several outstanding specs such as a 3.0 litre V6 engine, which is teamed to an eight-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive. Speeding from 0 – 100km/h in 5.9seconds."

Adding that, “safety tech equipment is a major highlight of the Touareg, which has auto emergency braking (AEB) that works at high and low speeds, and has a pedestrian and cyclist detetion including Night Vision. The Touareg also comes standard with blind spot monitoring; front and rear cross-traffic alert; lane keep assist and lane departure warning; front and rear parking sensors; a reversing camera; driver fatigue detection and adaptive cruise control.

"The Discover Pro multimedia screen offers gesture controls, App-Connect, four USB ports and a wireless charge pad. It’s very sophisticated, especially when you have a 12inch digital instrument cluster merging with a massive 15-inch touch screen display to create one of the most futuristic environments in the SUV segments.”

The new Touareg, she says, comprises of fuel efficiency and it’s lighter than the other generations of Volkswagen. But even with the size and weight, it is still extremely agile and comfortable.

Nevertheless, the Touareg proves itself as a true friend, helping out with lane keeping assist system. In combination with the adaptive cruise control, it makes long distance touring very easy.
