Unichem Ghana Organises Health Presentation for Medical professionals

A leading Pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution company, Unichem Ghana Group and its affiliate Luex UK, organized a health presentation at the Alisa Hotel for Medical doctors, physicians, pharmacists and health workers.

The forum offered the opportunity for the mainly young health professionals and students to be lectured and given insight on pertinent issues in the health conditions.

The presentation was on the topic: Scientific seminar of Managing Skin Infections was delivered by Prof. Hector Addo an Associate professor of the University of Ghana, school of Medicine and Dentistry.

He took delegates through common skin infections and alleges and certain organism (Bacteria and Fungi) that causes the infections and antibiotics to use for such treatments.

He warned against the use of Penicillin in the treatment of sores since it can cause the body system to develop sensitivity and resistance against the use of certain antibiotics and drugs and therefore called for it ban. He said topical antibiotic choice must be selectively used in managing suspected infections.

He bemoans poor conditions such as congestion, use of single bed for more than one patient in some of the country’s health centres which helps to increase the spread of certain skin infections.

“Because of our humid condition I recommend secondary school students to be asked to wear sandals to solve athlete foot infection instead of wearing camboo like was done in the past at the Achimota School,”
Dr. Raymond Tetteh, Lead Clinical pharmacist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital who received an educational sponsorship from the Unichem Group during his PhD programme chaired the forum.

He admonished health institutions and individuals who need sponsorship for their forums and events to call on the Unichem Group as they are more willing to help any health-related activities and programmes. He was full of praise for the Unichem Group for organizing the forum which will be held often.

Ranjeet Jamdar, Country Manager for Luex,” recounted the growth of the Unichem Group’s 59 years in West Africa starting from its establishment in Liberia, Nigeria, and then Ghana and 9 Francophone countries.

He stated that for the last 30 years the company has been in delivering health care support services in Ghana and operating all regions in the country.

“With the tremendous increase in domestic sales for Unichem Ghana and Luex products in the year 2007 a new baby was born in the name Unichem Industries Limited with a state of art pharmaceutical manufacturing company.

This year Unichem Industries will extend its operations at Spintex by producing liquid oil and ointments. Our MD Raj Mohan has the vision to make this plant continue to be certified and seek to follow specific specification which will be one of its first kind in the Ghanaian market.

All these domestic, global expansions of operations starting unichem Industries and expansion of our pharmaceutical plant wouldn’t have been possible without the support of doctors, physicians, pharmacists sit here,” He noted.

Unichem Ghana seized the opportunity to introduce some new drugs such as Mycolex Range (Gyno Mycolex, Mycole Cream, Mycolex Powder), Mycocort (treating chronic fungal infections), Zyfen (to treat Alleges) in the market.

Mr. Raj Mohan, CEO of Unichem Ghana Limited who presented awards to lucky winners after the lecture, assured delegates that more of such forum will be organized and emphasized his establishment’s decision to constantly put together events and activities that help in health care delivery in the country.
