UGBS lecturer made Fellow of Penn Institute for Urban Research

Dr. James Kwame Mensah, a Lecturer in the Department of Public Administration and Health Services Management, at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), has been made a fellow of the Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR), University of Pennsylvania, USA.

Dr. Mensah’s appointment took effect from 3rd July 2019, and this offer was as a result of his excellent works on Urbanisation and the institute’s conviction that his urban-focused scholarship will help deepen and diversify the multi-disciplinary knowledge that they seek to cultivate at Penn IUR.

This appointment comes along with a $15,000 grant for similar research projects which affords him the chance to positively impact studious students of UGBS, by engaging them on the various projects.

“He is currently working with two students on a project titled, ‘Prosperity to Informal Settlements in the Global South: Testing the Implementation of SDG7’,” a statement said.

As part of the offer, Dr. Mensah will be given the opportunity to present and showcase his works at Penn IUR sponsored events such as lectures, roundtables, conferences and book readings, as well as to be part of some future research collaborations on Urbanisation and other related spheres.

The Penn IUR fellows programme encompasses promising scholars and practitioners interested in urban policy.

Its fellows will be part of a dynamic but select community of urban scholars and practitioners. The programme is also dedicated to developing knowledge in three critical areas: innovative urban development strategies; building the sustainable and inclusive 21st-century city; and the role of anchor institutions in urban places. By providing a forum for collaborative scholarship and instruction, Penn IUR stimulates research and engages with the world of urban practitioners and policymakers

Such endeavours are important contributors to understanding the world’s changing cities, and UGBS therefore congratulates him for this achievement,” the statement added.
