Mr Seth Abloso, Former Head, Industrial Relations and Social Protection Department of the Trade Union Congress, has petitioned the National Pensions Regulatory Authority on the 50th Anniversary celebration of SSNIT.

He also requested that the authority take appropriate steps to stop SNNIT from undertaking three construction projects.

Mr Abloso said, according to SSNIT, as part of the celebration, the Scheme would support the provision of social protection with forty community police stations, ultramodern children Library and a Sports complex.

He said against the background of the disappointing performance of SSNIT in the delivery of retirement income security for members, what was there to be celebrated?

Mr Abloso said the Anniversary of the scheme needed to be observed not celebrated, and that, rather it should be used as a period for stock-taking and a ’surgical’ assessment of the administration of the Scheme.

“They should focus on addressing the challenges facing the Scheme to ensure that it was kept afloat, asking that, “Is the return on SSNIT’s investments satisfactory, who manages the investments,” he said.

The petitioner also said there were certain practices by SSNIT, which must be stopped without delay, including mourning with communities in which SSNIT operates, SSNIT giving back to society and making donations on behalf of Ghana, as well as donating to cater for supporters of the National team.
