Today, Friday November 4, marks Ghana’s 32nd National Farmers' Day celebrations.

National Farmers' Day is commemorated each year to honour Ghanaian farmers and fishermen. The occasion is also used to acknowledge the vital position farmers and fishermen occupy in the nation's socio-economic development.

The day is usually marked as a public holiday but this year, it will not be observed as such according to the Ministry for the Interior.

A statement signed by sector Minister Prosper Bani, however, said the "statutory Farmers' Day holiday, which falls on Friday, December 2, 2016, would be declared a public holiday appropriately”.

This year’s Farmers' Day celebration is being celebrated in November instead of the traditional first Friday of December because of the upcoming elections on December 7.

The 32nd National Farmers' Day celebration will be held at Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region under the theme: 'Agriculture: A Business Response to Economic Growth'.
