Tigo provides electricity for Ahabaso Community

Residents of Ahabaso, a community located in the Upper Manya Krobo district of the Eastern Region are now bound to see an improvement in their standard of living after the community was provided with power supply.

Tigo, one of the leading mobile telecommunication networks in Ghana provided and installed solar panels in the community through which inhabitants are now enjoying electricity for the very first time in their lives.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Tigo Ghana, Roshi Motman, they first came into contact with the community through ‘My Tigo Teacher’, an initiative where staff volunteer to teach in rural schools across the country.

“We visited the school to teach the pupils and realized they were unable to study beyond 6pm because the community was not connected to the national grid. Tigo Ghana left with the resolve to rectify this, hence the provision of solar panels to guarantee power supply especially in the evenings” she said.

She revealed that Tigo will intensify its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to empower and develop more communities. “Our goal is to make a meaningful contribution towards improved living standards like we have done here in this community,” she explained.

The Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo constituency, Mr Jeff Tetteh Kavianu, was grateful for the support and urged other corporate organisations to help develop rural Ghana and support government’s efforts to provide basic infrastructure.

The District Chief Executive for Upper Manya Krobo, Joseph Tetteh Angmor, appealed to Tigo and other institutions to help the community to rehabilitate its school building.

The off-grid power system is a cost efficient means of power generation which requires very little maintenance and has a life span of about 10 years.
