Tigo launches Blackberry Bold smartphone device

Accra, March 26, GNA - Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of Tigo mobile network, in partnership with Research In Motion (RIM), developers of the Blackberry Technology, on Wednesday launched the new Blackberry Bold smartphone device to serve the needs of the corporate world. The Blackberry Bold smartphone device supports high-speed broadband networks and comes with integrated GPS and WI-FI as well as a rich set of multimedia capabilities which allow users to transact business even when they are outside of their offices. It is also designed for organizations that manage their own email servers and has software that tightly integrates Microsoft, Exchange and Novell, among others, and uses advanced encryption and IT policy controls to enable secure, push-based wireless access to email and other corporate data.

As per the partnership, Tigo will provide the mobile network services whilst RIM provides the Blackberry Bold smartphone support services. Speaking at the launch in Accra, Mr Percy Grundy, General Manager of Millicom Ghana Limited said the launch of the device were in fulfilment of the company's desire to find solutions to all communication problems of mobile phone users adding that the Blackberry Bold smartphone device was therefore the perfect solution. Mr Grundy said the company did not only launch the device but also the Blackberry experience and functionalities which allowed users to feel as though they were in their offices. He called on corporate customers, small scale business operators and individuals to acquire the device adding that it would enhance their operations.

Ms Marlene Kiniffo, RIM Director, West Africa, said the launch showed the commitment of the two companies to offer their customers the best in the mobile telephony industry. She said RIM believed in Tigo's triple 'A' business model which stood for affordability, accessibility and availability adding that would inform RIM in prioritizing the Blackberry service and its entire solution to the customers. 26 March 09
