Tigo Ghana has rewarded agents of its award-winning mobile money product, Tigo Cash, for their loyalty and excellent performance in the year 2014.
The awards, dubbed: “Tigo Cash Agents Awards”, is the first of its kind in the telecom industry in Ghana and rewarded agents at the national and regional/territory level.
At the national event held in Accra, Seth Gideon Attisogubi from the Southern sector, won the first prize of brand new Hyundai i10 car plus five Tigo Cash branded kiosks.
The first runner, Kwame Osei Ogunniyi, also from the Southern sector, took home brand new Hyundai i10 car plus three Tigo Cash branded kiosks, while Moru Ishahu from the Northern sector won a brand new Hyundai i10 plus two Tigo Cash branded kiosks.
Three best agents in the Greater region, Eric Sowah, Edem Fiakporm and Belinda Kanyiwere were also rewarded for their hard work and received a motorbike each.
Speaking at the event, the Head of Mobile for Tigo Ghana, Tara Squire said the company is celebrating the hardworking agents for their contribution to the success story of Tigo Cash.
He explained that when Tigo Cash was launched in 2011, the objective was to provide a platform for Ghanaians to use their mobile phones to send and receive money in a more convenient and secure way.
Over the years however, the product has grown tremendously and Tigo has added on several other services including buying airtime from other networks and paying for goods and services.
Touching on its contribution to the economy, he disclosed that Tigo cash employs about 7,000 people nationwide. “Over 700 cocoa, rubber and rice farmers in rural Ghana continue to transact business using Tigo Cash.
“This means reduction of logistical and security challenges related to transporting cash to farming areas,” added Tara.
He noted that Tigo Cash is the most preferred mobile money wallet by traders, famers and even customers from competitors. “We have over 5,000 market women in 88 markets across the length and breadth of Ghana now saving with us,” Tara concluded.
Other regional/territory events to reward deserving agents will come off next month.
