Three telephone exchanges get new Alcatel switches

Kumasi, Dec 12, GNA- The Ghana Telecommunications Company (Telecom) has installed new Alcatel switches at the Tanoso, Buokrom and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Exchanges in Kumasi.

With this, direct telephone lines in each of the three exchanges had gone up from 500 to 5,000 lines.

Nana Kwakye Tandoh, Ashanti Regional Head of the company, was briefing members of the Board of Directors of Ghana Telecom on the company's operations during their familiarisation visit to the region on Friday.

He said the company has a bright future as it can now make projections into the future with certainty.

Nana Antwi Boasiako, Sekyedumasehene and Chairman of the Board, said the board is determined to ensure that the company achieved set targets of its business plan.

"We are committed to seeing a new Ghana Telecom, a marked change in attitude, sense of duty, sense of belonging and what it takes to deliver to the public".

He said since technology is moving so fast and the world is not waiting for anybody, the country could simply not afford to stay behind.

Nana Boasiako said it is for this reason that more urgency is needed to make sure all Senior Secondary Schools (SSS)are hooked to the Internet.

"The young ones and future generations must move with the world", the Board Chairman added.
