There is no increase in the price of sachet water - Producers

Accra, March 4, GNA - The National Co-ordinating Council (NCC) of Sachet Water Producers on Thursday asked members not to sell above the recommended prices approved by the Council to reduce the hardship on consumers. Mr Magnus Nunoo, President of Sachet Water Producers and a member of=

the NCC said the recommended price for a bag of sachet water of 30 pieces=

was 90 pesewas. "We state that a piece of iced sachet water remains and retailed at five pesewas. All who have been selling above the recommended prices are advised to reverse by March 8, 2010," he said. Mr Nunoo said the suspension of the tax, though a welcomed developme= nt, had not addressed all the concerns of the sachet water producers as membe= rs still must contend with the increasing cost of production, particularly plastics. He said members had to reduce the prices because the economic implications of change in price would impact heavily on consumers. Mr Nunoo said the producers were working with government to manage th= e plastic waste and for the past three years members had imposed levies on themselves to generate funds to manage the waste. Members have also established a secretariat and a standing environmen= tal guard of about 70 men and women who monitor distributors of sachet water and other plastic products in the Greater Accra Region.
