Tema harbour acquires new tugboat

The Tema Harbour, as part of its pursuit of increased efficiency has purchased a new 2.2 million Euro tugboat that will help reduce the cost of doing business at the port.

Speaking with the Ghana News Agency in an interview, Mr Paul Ansah, Public Relations Manager, Tema Port, said the tugboat has a capacity of 60.5 bollard pull and an engine capacity of 5000 horse power.

Mr Ansah said the tugboat can pull any vessel weighing 60.5 tons and above, also has the turning capacity of 360°.

He disclosed that in the next few weeks, the port would take delivery of a dredger designed to dredge multipurpose berths of up to 10m deep to allow more bigger ships into the port.

The tugboat is named after T.T. Addy, a former Director of Tema Port. Mr Ansah said, the new security tugboat was manufactured in Holland and later assembled in China by Demen Shipping.
