The Minister of Communication and Digital Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that Ghana’s three major telecom companies, MTN, Telecel, and AirtelTigo, have committed to investing $150 million by the end of 2025 to improve network quality and service delivery across the country.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series in Accra on August 1, 2025, he said the investment is part of a broader agreement between the government and the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), following key reforms in the telecommunications sector.

“Additionally, the three leading operators have committed to invest a combined 150 million US dollars in their networks by the end of the year to improve quality of service and reliability,” he said.

The Minister explained that the commitment from the telecom firms followed a national review, updated licensing terms, and a push for pricing reforms introduced earlier this year.

As part of the deal, the telcos revised their data bundles effective July 1, 2025. MTN increased data volumes by 15%, while Telecel and AirtelTigo raised theirs by 10%.

The move has effectively lowered data costs for consumers.

Citing MTN’s GH¢399 bundle as an example, Sam George noted that it now offers 214GB of data, more than double the previous 92GB under the older pricing structure.

He added that the government will continue to engage the operators to ensure Ghanaians enjoy affordable and reliable connectivity as the country deepens its transition into the digital age.
