"Tarzan" steps into gas controversy

.... AND DESCRIBES ON-GOING DEBATE FOR AND AGAINST WAGP AGREEMENT AS UNNECESSARY!

Contrary to the argument being put forward that Ghana must not ratify the current agreement on the West Africa Gas Pipeline Project (WAGP), and that Ghana must own the gas pipeline, the agreement is seen by others as the best for Ghana in the circumstance.

Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby aka ?Tarzan,? an energy expert, has challenged the argument that the agreement was unfair and that Ghana needs to own the gas pipeline, as based on a false premise.

According to him, in the first place, Ghana needed to import crude oil to run the Takoradi Thermal Plant for the generation of power. And that, using gas to run the plant was going to be cheaper and save the country huge sums of foreign exchange.

He also noted that, all indications pointed to the fact that, crude oil prices over the next decade would hover around $35 per barrel, ?and that makes the savings on gas even more considerable.?
