Support gov't to strengthen procurement system in Ghana – Minister urges practitioners

Minister of State in-charge of Public Procurement, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, has asked all stakeholders to brace the public procurement system so as to improve its performance and sustainability.

In relation to that, she said her ministry is doing all within its power to establish affirmative policies that would enable women, youth and persons with disability (PDA’s) build local industries and capacity.

“We need the support of all professional bodies in the area of procurement. Don’t relent in complimenting the work of my ministry and government to strengthen the procurement system. My ministry is working tirelessly to come up with a policy to ensure that companies that are owned by women, youth and PWD’s are given the opportunities to build local industries and companies”. She stated.

During the Ghana Procurement and Supply Awards ceremony held in Accra, Friday, Madam Adwoa Safo established that president Akufo-Addo is focused on enhancing procurement processes and laws in the country.

“President Akufo-Addo has taken an extreme interest improving and enhancing procurement processes, procedures and rules of our country. Our mandate is to advice the president and develop new policies that would assist government set the proper strategies in procurement to enhance implementation”.

She added that he (President Akufo-Addo) would soon launch a confirmatory policy to ensure that all procurement entities allocate 30 percent of all government contracting to these targeted groups (women, youth and PWD’s).



“This affirmative action policy that very soon the president would launch is to ensure that all procurement entities ensure that at least 30persent of all government contracts, works, good and services”. She asserted

The minister went on further to note that her outfit currently, has put together a Professional Ethics and Standard Committee to draft comprehensive ethics that would be the basis for benchmarking procurement practitioners in Ghana.
