Sunyani West District Assembly to undertake projects

The Sunyani West District Assembly has earmarked 976,795 Ghana Cedis for some development projects this year.

The projects include a police station estimated atGH¢200,000, market stores and stalls estimated at GH¢12,169 and school blocks with ancillary facilities estimated at GH¢87,094.

Others are rehabilitation of a lorry park at GH¢110,781 and an acquisition of land for the construction of District Assembly Block at an estimated cost of GH¢15,000.

The street naming and property addressing system is estimated at GH¢53,000, provision of new boreholes with hand pumps and rehabilitation of existing ones at GH¢373,367, and the construction and furnishing of the Sunyani West District Chief Executive’s bungalow at an estimated cost of GH¢80,384.

The Odumase Community Library and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre would be refurbished at an estimated cost of GH¢25,000

Mr Kwasi Owusu Mintah, Sunyani West District Planning Officer told the GNA in an interview. He said as part of its efforts to increase access to and participation in education at all levels, the Assembly would provide financial assistance to brilliant but needy students to enable them acquire higher education at an estimated cost of GH¢100,000.

Mr Mintah said the assembly had instituted measures for in-service training programmes for the staff of the assembly, heads of departments and assembly members to build and enhance their capacities for efficient and effective performance.

Mr Mintah said under the agricultural sector, the assembly would develop post- harvest management strategies at individual and community levels to reduce post- harvest losses.

In addition, the assembly would promote the patronage of locally produced products through the production of quality and well packaged products to increase agricultural competiveness and enhance integration into domestic and international market.

Mr Benjamin Atsutse, Sunyani West District Budget Officer said the assembly had increased its rates to generate enough revenue to realize its objective for the year.
