The President of the National Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana (MoMAG), Edward Ofori Agyemang, has highlighted the importance of agent welfare, networking, and fraud prevention within the mobile money ecosystem.

Speaking at the 2026 edition of the MoMAG Day Out held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the University of Ghana, Ofori Agyemang explained that the initiative was introduced to allow mobile money agents to relax and bond, as many of them rarely take time off work.

According to him, the group, which is nearing its ninth year of existence, introduced the annual event three years ago to create a balance between work and social life for agents.

“Mobile money agents hardly close their shops to rest or spend time with their families. So we introduced MoMAG Day Out to allow them to have fun, interact with stakeholders, and improve their well-being,” he said.

Ofori Agyemang emphasised that beyond recreation, the event serves as a platform for engagement with key industry players, allowing agents to present their concerns and challenges directly to stakeholders.

“We use this platform to engage institutions on the challenges we face. It also helps strengthen relationships within the industry,” he added.

Touching on key concerns within the sector, the MoMAG President cautioned agents against engaging in fraudulent practices, particularly the illegal charging of customers for deposits.

“Charging customers for deposits is against the rules. Any agent found doing that will face sanctions. We have made it clear that such practices will not be tolerated,” he stressed.

He also advised customers to always carry their mobile phones when visiting mobile money vendors, noting that failure to do so contributes to irregular practices by some agents.

“If a customer comes without a phone, agents are encouraged not to process the transaction. This is to protect both parties and ensure transparency,” he explained.
