Stock index picks up

Accra, (Greater Accra) 22 July '99,

The GSE All-Share Index rallied during trading on Wednesday by gaining 0.41 points. It closed at 788.48 points, up from the 788.07 points chalked on Monday.

Total shares traded also ended higher at 659,500 following a huge sale of 643,900 shares of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB). Demand finished at 695,500. Offers closed at 3.5 million on the back of high investor interest in GCB.

Market capitalisation was 3,280.70 billion cedis, out of the 1,011.05 million issued shares. In the broader market, four equities registered price changes. Three went up, with one going down.

Aluworks was up 10 cedis to end trading at 2,610 cedis, followed by Guinness Ghana Limited (GGL), which earned nine cedis at 935 cedis. CFAO edged up five cedis to 45 cedis per share. GCB lost five cedis to close at 990 cedis.
