Stock index continues to appreciate despite low volumes

Accra, Feb. 3, GNA - The Accra bourse continued to appreciate on Tuesday despite volumes traded staying on the low side. The GSE All-Share Index, the main market gauge, climbed by 40.38 points to 3,838.44 points. Change for the year was also better at 8.02 per cent from 6.88 per cent.

There were eight price changes, seven up one down.

Unilever led the way with a 480-cedi gain at 15,500 cedis. Ghana Commercial Bank and Produce Buying Company both earned 100 cedis each at 9,200 cedis and 1,700 cedis respectively.

British American Tobacco was 60 cedis better at 6,160 cedis; Cocoa Products Company gained seven cedis at 665 cedis, Guinness Ghana Limited gained five cedis at 6,855 cedis and Mechanical Lloyd inched up by one cedi at 752 cedis.

The only loser was Ghana Breweries Limited, which closed 10 cedis lower at 1,450 cedis.

Total Shares traded closed lower at 123,300 shares from higher 298,800 on Friday. Market capitalisation was better at 13,336.64 billion cedis from 13,234.68 billion cedis.
