State Housing Company to deliver 1,500 new units to address housing deficit

The State Housing Company Limited (SHCL) has announced plans to deliver 1,500 new housing units as part of efforts to tackle Ghana’s 1.8 million-unit housing deficit.

The announcement was made during the commissioning of Seasons Court, a fully sold-out 9-unit apartment complex at Adenta on August 4, 2025.

SHCL Managing Director, John Bawah, said the project will be delivered in partnership with private developers to scale up delivery and meet rising demand.

“We cannot keep building 100 or 200 homes at a time and expect to solve a 1.8 million-unit deficit. That’s why we’re working with the private sector to deliver 1,500 new units,” he said.

Bawah assured that this initiative will not come at the expense of existing unfinished projects, adding, “We are committed to completing all ongoing projects, even those started before 2016. No taxpayer money will be wasted,” he added.

The SHCL Managing Director credited President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership for promoting continuity in national development, stressing that SHCL is guided by the government’s policy of completing inherited projects.

The 1,500-unit plan also aligns with government’s 24-hour economy policy.

Bawah noted, “People working night shifts need to know their families are safe and housed. That’s our job, ensuring quality, affordable housing in a 24-hour economy.”

The swift uptake of Seasons Court, a mix of two- and three-bedroom units, reflects growing demand and confidence in SHCL’s delivery.

“Next time State Housing breaks ground, don’t wait, secure your unit early. This is just the beginning. Soon, we’ll be commissioning not just 9 units, but 1,500,” Bawah said.
