Soubestre : "African Countries Can Register Growth If ...,"

Accra - African countries can register growth in their economies if proper development oriented policies and planning are adopted. This observation was made on arrival in Accra today by Mr Phillipe Soubestre, Director-General for development and co-operation with African, Carribean and Pacific countries (ACP) at the European Union headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. He said most African countries have not put in place proper policies that can propel their economies and improve the living standards of their people. Mr Soubestre is in the country to attend a conference of the EU/ACP due to open tomorrow in Accra. The conference will discuss a ''Green paper on relations between the EU and the ACP countries on the eve of the 21st century - Challenges and options for a new partnership''.
