Solis Microfinance Limited, a leading microfinance institution in Ghana, in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), has officially launched the Solis Mobile Banking App and unveiled its flagship Boafo Pa Loan product, both tailored specifically for Ghana’s informal sector and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
The launch, held on 30th April 2025, at the Erata Hotel in East Legon, is a bold statement of Solis’s commitment to digitizing financial inclusion and revolutionizing microfinance delivery across the country.
The event was graced by a powerful lineup of stakeholders and thought leaders, including Madam Jacqueline Commodore, Executive Secretary of the Ghana Association of Microfinance Companies (GAMC); Adeline Ocran, delegate of the Head of the Payment Systems Department at the Bank of Ghana; Mohammed Omar, Regional Head of Garment Dressmakers Association in Ghana; Bernard Avle, General Manager of CITI TV/FM; Cynthia Adjei, representative from GIZ Ghana; and several executives from partner FinTech’s, MSME associations, clients and members of the press including Joy News, Business & Financial Times, and Citi Business News.
Their presence highlighted the significance of the event.
These distinguished guests commended Solis Finance for its forward-thinking approach and emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts in deepening financial inclusion, particularly for underserved communities.
As Ghana accelerates toward a digital economy, Solis Finance has firmly positioned itself at the forefront, bridging the gap between technology and the everyday financial needs of its people.
Reflecting on the company’s journey, Solis has undergone a remarkable transformation since its beginnings in Tema in 2010. In 2022, the institution launched a digital-first overhaul under new leadership, culminating in its rebranding.
“As markets changed and client needs evolved, so did our aspirations,” said Mr. Francis Sekoh-Dadzie, Board Chairman of Solis, in a speech delivered on his behalf.
“We recognized the need to reposition ourselves with a fresh identity, a strengthened governance framework, and a sharper mission. Thus, Solis, meaning ‘sun’, was born,” he further reiterated.
Solis Mobile Banking App: Banking in your pocket
The star of the event was the launch of the Solis Finance Mobile App, a seamless and secure platform that allows anyone with a Ghana Card, mobile money number, and smartphone to open an account in under two minutes, no queues, no paperwork, no branches.
Officially unveiled by Madam Adeline Ocran, who served as a delegate of the Head of the Payments Systems Department at the Bank of Ghana, the app was described as a milestone in the nation's financial digitization journey.
“This is more than a digital product; it is a profound commitment to financial access for the informal sector,” she said.
Building on this theme of inclusion, Anthony Abakisi, founder of Solis, in a keynote speech during the event, reiterated the company's broader vision:
“This launch is not just about an app. It is about a movement, where every Ghanaian, regardless of their income level or location, can take control of their finances.”
He added, “Our mission is to help the excluded build a habit of saving and get access to credit that supports both their hustle and dreams. There is no need to sit in a bank for hours or fill out long forms. With this new app, the process is simple and fast.”
To demonstrate this in practice, the vibrant event featured a live demonstration of the Solis Finance App by Derrick Boachie, Head of Business Development at Solis Finance.
He highlighted the app’s user-friendly interface and features designed for daily use by traders, students, salaried workers, artisans, mobile vendors, and gig workers.
These features include:
• Instant account opening
• No minimum balance required
• Savings accounts
• Seamless transfers and more!
Boafo Pa Loan: Fuelling MSME growth
The launch also featured the official introduction of the Boafo Pa Loan, a product developed under the GIZ Private and Financial Sector (PFS) Support Program.
Currently awaiting final approval from the Bank of Ghana, this innovative loan is specifically tailored for MSMEs and informal workers such as seamstresses, hairdressers, mobile agents, and other micro-entrepreneurs.
It offers flexible terms and asset-based financing, addressing the unique needs of individuals often excluded by traditional banking systems.
Speaking on the partnership, Dr. Dirk Aßmann, Country Director of GIZ Ghana, expressed strong support for the initiative in a speech delivered on his behalf by Cynthia Adjei.
“Our collaboration with Solis is purposeful,” he noted. “We aim to create inclusive, user-centered financial solutions that support sustainable economic growth,” he further emphasised.
Again, Dr. Aßmann, in his speech, went on to commend Solis for its forward-thinking approach and adoption of digital innovations that directly serve small businesses.
He emphasised the critical role MSMEs play in job creation and national development, noting that many of them are underserved by formal banking systems.
According to him, the partnership between GIZ and Solis is a strategic step toward closing that gap and empowering micro and small enterprises to grow and thrive.
Bridging technology and trust
Launching the Solis Finance Mobile App and Boafo Pa Loan is not just about new products, it represents a renewed mission to include every Ghanaian in the formal financial system.
Through the combination of strong digital infrastructure and real sector partnerships, Solis Microfinance redefines what it means to serve the informal economy.
“This is the future of finance for everyday Ghanaians,” said Abakisi. “It’s fast, inclusive, and designed to work for your hustle,” he added.
With this foundation in place, and with continued collaboration from development partners like GIZ Ghana and oversight from the Bank of Ghana, Solis is poised to expand its reach and impact—ensuring no trader, artisan, or micro-entrepreneur is left behind.
