Skyy Media Group organises two-day entrepreneurial workshop for businesses

Skyy Media Group as part of celebrating 20th years of Impactful radio broadcast business in Western Region facilitated a two-day entrepreneurial Training School for 100 business folks on 5th and 6th December 2017. With this out of the way, the Western Region Excellence Awards and Westside Masqueraders and Music Carnival are the two outstanding events lined up to complete the 20th Anniversary celebration which started from August this year.

The Masterclass Business Seminar supported by MTN Business was fully subscribed and turned out very successful from feedback from participants and follow-ups report. Participants are now networked on a Skyy @ 20 Masterclass WhatsApp platform to facilitate virtual classroom for mentoring and learning to continue.

In the opening address, Mrs Adelaide Adwoa Amofah Arthur Ag. CEO of Skyy Media Group revealed that Skyy Media Group exists to Impact all who experience the brand. Aside the Millionaire Mind daily 15-minute success knowledge sharing segment on the Jolly Breakfast show Monday to Friday, strategic Events like Masterclass are means of directly living up to the corporate mission of Skyy Media Group.

The key Facilitators were Hon Wilson Arthur, DCE of Wassa East District Assembly (founder and CEO of Skyy Media Group) and Yaw Korankye Antwi of M-DoZ Consulting and www.ghanatalksbusiness.com.

On day one, Hon Arthur took participants through Entrepreneurship and practical steps to establishing a business. Mr Antwi spoke on raising funds to start your business and best practices in managing Day to Day business finances.

It was revealing to know that Entrepreneurs are people who start a business or acquire someone’s business whereas Entrepreneurial is an adjective that describes the culture, the philosophy and behaviour of Entrepreneurs. Hon Arthur believes everyone needs to be Entrepreneurial to be most Impactful in life. Given the abundance of natural resources and the many challenges that present opportunities for Entrepreneurs, Mr Arthur contest that the level of unemployment and poverty confronting us as a People is a pointer that we lack entrepreneurial skills to create value. We are overly focused on the end, money rather than mastering in the means, serving with excellence to open the taps for money to flow into our lives. He called for a paradigm shift of “ I am going to school to acquire certificates for jobs for money” to “I am going to school to acquire knowledge and network with my mates to enhance my capacity serve better, to add value to lives and create wealth”.

Mr Korankye highlighted on the need for businesses, irrespective of their size and complexity, to keep accurate financial records. He led participants to build a basic financial record framework, how to build controls to minimise losses through revenue leakage and how to take charge of their banking relationships to optimise value.

On the second day, Hon Arthur shared the practical steps to create and establish a brand and growing it. Mr Korankye spoke on fraud threat facing SMEs. After this section, the school became very interactive as individual issues were addressed one on one. Test cases were drawn out of the issues for solutions to be discussed.

On branding, Wilson revealed that a brand is more than a name, signage and colours or symbols and packaging of a products or service provider. It is the value of your person, product or/and service on the minds and in hearts of consumers of your brand. Wilson emphasized that Brands are established with a clear mission, vision, culture and values that guide all who cooperate to produce the brand experience. Without clarity, brands suffer. He posits that brand Ghana will do better if we agree and share definitive values that a good Ghanaian must live by. In the absence of known values that define us as a people, we operate arbitrarily hoping we are doing the right things.

Mr Korankye facilitated a number of business turnaround cases where the groups created strategies to turn around ailing strategies.

It’s been 20 years, from October 1997, when Skyy Power took over the airwaves of Sekondi-Takoradi the people in the Western Region have been impacted tremendously by this media brand.

This 20 years has also been eventful with tangible impact in the city, region and the lives of individuals. Not surprisingly, Wilson Arthur was nominated to serve on the LOC CAN 2008 Business committee at the national level and serve also as Vice Chairman of Sekondi Host City. The Impactful media brand invested in a 6m x 4m LED Display Screen and 60 Temporal shops structures at Jubilee Park in Takoradi to create the best CAN 2008 Fan Park creating room for businesses to serve the thousands of Soccer Tourists who poured in from Abidjan, Nigeria, Mali and beyond. Alpha Blondy, Alaji and Sydney were among star acts that entertained the patrons of Fan Park.
