Singapore Telecom eyes Ghana Telecom

Singapore’s SingTel is reportedly considering acquiring a stake in Ghana’s state-owned Ghana Telecom, which operates mobile services under the Onetouch brand, is the in a deal thought to be worth over US$500 million.
A move into Africa would take SingTel outside its traditional Asia Pacific base where it has spent US$12.3 billion) in recent years, buying operators in high- growth areas, and in the larger Australian market.

MTN, OneTouch warned over for service failures

Ghanaian operators MTN and OneTouch have received formal warnings from the telecoms regulator the NCA over service failures. “In our market assessment, both qualitative and quantitative, we have concluded that the services of MTN and OneTouch need improvement, particularly when these parties carry 88% of total mobile network traffic. MTN’s network in particular has to drastically improve to address their growing traffic and resultant complaints of various types by the public,” the NCA said in a statement.
