*In an announcement embargoed till 6th March 2012*, Professor Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, said – “This honour is bestowed by the World Economic Forum each year to recognize the most distinguished young leaders nominated below the age of 40 from around the world.”

It also said: “The Selection Committee, chaired by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, chose [the Young Global Leaders] after carefully screening the profiles of thousands of young leaders from every region of the world and from a myriad of disciplines and sectors. [Their] nomination is in recognition of [their] record of professional accomplishments, [their] commitment to society and [their] potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world through [their] inspiring leadership.”
