Sale of used home appliances increases online

Sales of used refrigerators, washing machines, split air-conditioners, kitchenware and furniture have seen an increase in the last three months, boosting hopes of a flourishing online market for sellers and buyers of home appliances.
Brands such as Samsung, LG, Sharp, Beko and Nasco enjoy high levels of patronage by consumers who prefer to look for great deals on used home appliances online.
A lot of these consumers attribute the rise in demand to the reasonable prices, the numerous choices available and the ease of closing deals online.
The biggest growth of online trading items was within the home appliances category were microwave ovens and refrigerators, which recorded a growth of 270% and 233% respectively.
Online classifieds website Tonaton.com reveals that the listings in these appliances has increased by almost 35% since July 2013.
The average price of a double door refrigerator on Tonaton.com sells at GHc750 whilst a similar one will cost a buyer an average of price GHc1, 250 on the open market.
A washing machine which sells at an average price of GHc 340 on the website sells at GHc900 on the open market.
A slightly used microwave oven can also be purchased at an average price of GHc280 on the website compared to an average price of GHc485 on the open market.
