SSB customers express disappointment

Customers of the SSB Bank at Ho have expressed disappointment at the industrial action embarked upon by the staff.

Customers who called at the bank at about 9 am on Monday to transact business left in disappointment when they found the gate to the banking hall locked.

" How are we going to eat ", a visibly disturbed customer asked one of the few bank employees who were seen loitering within the vicinity of the bank.

Some customers told the Ghana News Agency that whatever the reason, the strike should be an internal matter for which customers should not be made to suffer.

"We don't know how long this strike is going to last and for as long as it lasts we will be held to ransom", a customer observed.

Another customer who wanted to change some foreign currencies said he had to go to another bank to transact that business.

The branch manager, Mr Gbemu said he could not say when the strike would end but "it is a situation we want to put an end to quickly."

Mr Gbemu said 95 per cent of workers had been paid their salaries before the strike began but "we have to work all the same."

He said the union is talking with the management about conditions of service and the branch would wait for signals from Accra as to when to resume work.
