Resource labour department for accurate data – Bress-Biney

Desmond Bress-Biney Desmond Bress-Biney

President of the Association of Graduates in Skills Development-Ghana (AGSD-GH) formerly the Unemployed Graduates Association of Ghana (UGAG), Desmond Bress-Biney, has asked the government of Ghana to resource the labour department within the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations to enable them gather accurate data on available jobs and also unemployment in the country.

According to him, the Labour Department in Ghana, an oil producing West African country, is under-resourced.

This situation he said has rendered the state institution incapable of gathering accurate data for public consumption.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi TV Wednesday August 14, Mr Bress-Biney said government officials over the years have thrown out figures on jobs they have created.

But, in his view, these numbers cannot be trusted because they are not verifiable.

“The only solution is to resource the labour department to do a good job,” he suggested.

He added: “We need to resource the Labour department to enable them do a better job.

“The labour department is under-resourced and so they are unable to churn out reliable data.”
