Renewable energy to take centre at Lome Int’l Fair

The sub-region’s renewable energy sector will take centre stage at the upcoming 12th Lomé International Trade Fair as experts from the region and the world over are scheduled to meet to find solutions to the region’s untapped renewable prospects.

This year’s Lome Trade Fair is under the theme: ‘Renewable energy: Source of progress and sustainable development’ and is expected to step up efforts toward developing West Africa’s renewables sector as a major source of sustainable development and economic empowerment.

It will bring together thousands of businesses especially from the energy sector in West Africa, Europe and Asia to find tune measures to catalyse the sector’s advancement.

A representative of the Lome International Trade Fair and Public Relations and Communication rep for CETEF-Lomé, Radji Judith Djeri, speaking at the launch of the 12thLome International Trade Fair in Accra assured businesses that the fair will provide an opportune avenue for sub-regional businesses to not only sell but also network and explore other opportunities within the region, especially the francophone market.

“There will be lots of conferences, seminars and activities to open up markets for participating companies or businesses. This to me is a big opportunity for Ghanaian businesses to break into neighbouring markets as they seek to expand their frontiers,” Mrs. Djeriadded.

The fair is slated to take place from the 20th of November -7th of December this year in Lomé, Togo.

According to the organisers, prudent arrangements have been made with border officials at the Togo end to allow for smooth transit of goods and participants to the event venue.

Over the last few years, electricity supply within the sub-region, especially Ghana has become one of the pressing challenges militating against economic growth and development. This is largely so owing to increasing population and its concomitant demand for power.

It is therefore important for governments and private investors within West Africa to gear-up efforts aimed at developing the renewable energy sector, especially solar energy to augment short falls in electricity supply which will ultimately boost the various economies within the region.
