Registrar General's Department generates revenue

Accra, May 26, GNA - The Registrar General's Department earned 4,603,932.57 Ghana cedis as revenue last year, surpassing what it earned last year, Mr Joseph Kofi Harlley, the acting Registrar General, said on Tuesday.

He told the GNA in an interview that the department earned 385,832.90 Ghana cedis in 2008.

Mr Harlley said the department increased its revenue because of new administrative measures that encouraged people to do business with it. Some of the fees charged were on estate/liquidation, registration of companies, business names/partnership, textiles/patent, marriages and forms.

Mr Harlley said the department had dealt with its previous shortcomings and these included delays, poor quality, lack of concerns to genuine needs of the customer and cumbersome procedures. He said the department has no agent or middleman and clients should be at the information desk where they would be directed as to what to do.

Mr Harlley said activities at the department are on fast track and people seeking to register their limited liability companies would get their papers processed and completed for collection in seven working days. Registration of company limited guarantee and registration of business names would be processed and completed for collection in five working days. 26 May 09
