Public sector workers get 10% salary increment

Public sector workers who have been migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSS) will enjoy a 10 percent pay rise from next month.

The decision to increase the base pay was taken after negotiations between government, the Fair Wages Commission and organized labour.

Public sector workers on the pay policy will now enjoy a minimum of 5 Ghana Cedis 32 Pesewas as base pay. Last year public sector workers on the single spine were paid 4 Cedis 84 Pesewas as base pay.

Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, George Smith Graham said “every year we negotiate the base pay on the single and the base pay is the minimum amount anybody is supposed to receive on the single spine. So what has been announced is the base pay that has been negotiated so we concluded negotiations two days ago.”

He added that “what this means is that the base pay will be increased from September 1.”
