Production Of Antiretroviral Drugs In Ghana to Take Off Soon

A Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant which will produce HIV/AIDS antiretroviral, anti-malaria and other drugs by September 2004 is being established at Baatsona, on the Spintex Road in Accra.

The first phase of the project is estimated at 2 million US dollars and is being undertaken jointly by Adams Pharmaceuticals Company Ltd. of China and Danpong Pharmaceuticals Co. Ltd. of Ghana. The production of the drugs in the country is expected to make the cost of the drugs affordable and also generate employment.

These were made known in Accra today, July 26 when officials of the two companies called on the Minister for Private Sector Development, Hon Kwamena Bartels at his office. The delegation included Mr Adams Lin, Managing Director of Adams Pharmaceuticals Company Ltd. of china and Dr Yaw Adu Gyamfi, chairman of Danpong Group of Companies.

Mr Adams Lin described Ghana as a friendly and peaceful country with a very favourable business environment for investment. The Minister for Private Sector Development, Hon Kwamena Bartels encouraged investors to do business in the country in order to take advantage of the large market here and other parts of West Africa.
