Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, will officially open the Africa Energy Technology Conference (AETC) 2026 on May 19 at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.

The three-day event, running from May 19-21, is organised by the Africa Energy Technology Centre in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.

The conference, themed “From Borders to Bridges: Driving Intra-African Trade and Development through Energy & Technology Services”, will bring together over 1,500 delegates from more than 30 countries, including 55 African ministers and 100 VIP speakers.

President Mahama will be joined by Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and several heads of state and international energy leaders, including Daniel Francisco Chapo of Mozambique, João Lourenço of Angola, Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of AfCFTA, and Aliko Dangote, Founder and CEO of Dangote Group.

The conference agenda will cover policy harmonisation, cross-border finance, digital connectivity, intra-African commerce, workforce mobility, and women and youth participation in energy innovation. The event also includes an Exclusive Gala Dinner & Trade Awards Night and sessions on technical solutions, deal-making, and youth empowerment in energy technology.

Ghana’s selection as host underscores its strategic role as a hub for energy technology in Africa.

Emelia Akumah, President of the Africa Energy Technology Centre, said the goal is to “transform Ghana into the definitive gateway for energy technology transformation across the sub-region.”

President Mahama’s participation aligns with his “Accra Reset” initiative, which focuses on industrialisation, technological self-sufficiency, and promoting intra-African cooperation.
