Poultry Association decries ban on sale of live birds

The President of the Poultry Association of Ghana, Oppong Adjei has said the decision by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to place a ban on the sale of live birds is a threat to the industry’s survival.

He bemoaned the directive, adding that such a decision will have dire consequences on their business across-board.

“This will affect us in so many ways and we fear this might collapse the industry”

Mr Adjei’s comment follows a ban placed on the sale and movement of live birds by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to prevent the spread of the Avian influenza popularly known as Bird Flu.

He hinted on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM that the association will meet the Ministry today to deliberate further on the Ministry’s directive.

The Veterinary Service Department following the outbreak of the Avian Influenza flu in the country cautioned the general public against the movement of birds from one place to another as it poses threat to both humans and birds.
