The port security committee comprising the national security, customs, BNI, port security, port fire and safety have undertaken a security exercise dubbed Nkabom.

The committee is required to hold drills and exercises frequently to test the readiness of the committee to the threats which are identified in the port facility security plan.

This is a requirement under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code which is an amendment to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention (1974/1988) on minimum security arrangements for ships, ports and government agencies.

The exercise was used to demonstrate a live bomb threat deactivation with the assistance of experts from first battalion infantry.

The Tema Port Security Manager, Lt. Col Nana Darkwa said he expects security in the port to improve drastically.

The Harbour Master of Tema Port, Capt. Richmond Quayeson said the exercise will go a long way to boost the morale of the security personnel as well as make the port a safe place to do business.

He charged the port security to always endeavour to discharge their duties with much diligence and professionalism.
