Patronise services of brokers - GIBA boss

Reverend Asante Marfo-Ahenkora, President of the Ghana Insurance Brokers Association (GIBA), has urged the insuring public to use the services of member-companies in their insurance transactions.

He said GIBA is the umbrella body of all brokerage firms licenced by the National Insurance Commission (NIC) to operate in Ghana.

Rev. Ahenkora disclosed that membership of GIBA has risen from about 16 companies in 1988 to 55 as at the close of December 2012, and contributes between 60-65 percent of premium income to the insurance companies.

The President made this passionate call when he flagged-off the 25th anniversary 35-kilometre health walk through some major streets of Accra by members of GIBA last week. He explained that the broker is an insurance professional who understands the specific insurance needs of the customer.

Rev. Ahenkora said: “The broker will assist you to purchase the right policy for your specific need from the right insurance company at the right premium.

“We also wish to say that the advantage of passing your transaction through any of our member-companies is that we take charge of your insurance claims and ensure insurers pay genuine claims promptly.”

He reminded the public that all services rendered by its member-companies are free. About 250 practitioners gathered at the premises of NIC to partake in the 25th anniversary health walk as early as 6am.
