Founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Hassan Ayariga, has called on actors in the business space to recalibrate the prices of their goods to reflect the remarkable gains the Ghana cedi has made against the US dollar.
In a phone interview with GhanaWeb Business on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Dr. Ayariga stated that the improved strength of the cedi has brought relief to the economy, including industry players; hence, prices must reflect same.
In his estimation, Ghanaian businesses and local entrepreneurs should initiate moves to revise the prices of their commodities to reflect the current economic gains to help complement the government's efforts of stabilising the economy for all.
“This is not only an act of patriotism but a demonstration of solidarity with the Ghanaian people who have endured economic hardships. Lowering (sic) prices will improve the standard of living, drive consumer demand, and further stimulate economic growth,” he said.
He commended President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as fiscal discipline and sound economic policies, which has led to the recent stabilisation of the Ghana cedi.
"The leadership of President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has demonstrated commendable fiscal discipline and sound economic policies, resulting in the stabilization of the Ghanaian Cedi. This achievement has brought significant relief to importers, traders, businessmen, entrepreneurs and consumers," he stated.
He emphasised that passing on the benefits of a stronger cedi to consumers would support national efforts to build a resilient and inclusive economy.
