The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that more than 8,000 Ghanaians have received their new chip-embedded passports through a free courier service under a new government initiative.
In a post shared on his X page on May 17, 2025, as sighted by GhanaWeb Business, Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed that a total of 8,463 passport applicants have benefited from the free delivery service since the launch of the “Reset Passport Reforms” on April 28, 2025.
“Mahama’s government is here to serve you diligently, and to keep our pledges to you. For God and Country," he tweeted.
The initiative is part of a broader reform agenda aimed at enhancing access to passports and streamlining the application process nationwide.
Under the new system, applicants no longer need to pay for courier services, which previously added to the cost and complexity of acquiring a passport.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pledged to continue rolling out further improvements in the coming months, focusing on convenience, transparency, and enhanced security features in passport processing.
The new chip-embedded passports are part of Ghana’s digital transformation agenda and are designed to meet international standards for travel documents.
An impressive 8,463 Ghanaians have conveniently received their new chip-embedded passports across the country via courier without paying extra charges since our April 28, 2025 Reset Passport Reforms.
