The Acting Director-General of the Cyber Security Authority, Divine Selase Agbeti, has stated that over 38.3 million cellular mobiles are now digitally connected, exposing them to the benefits and threats in cyberspace.

He made this statement during the Safer Digital Ghana Campaign 2025 - Soft Launch and Ambassador Signing Ceremony held on July 16, 2025.

Ghana's digital landscape is experiencing unprecedented growth, with over 38.3 million cellular mobile subscribers and internet-enabled technologies now integrated into schools, businesses, and households.

"Ghana has embraced this transformation," Agbeti emphasised, referring to Data Reportal's Digital 2025: Ghana report.

This surge in connectivity is revolutionising how Ghanaians communicate, access information, and conduct business, he said on the sidelines of the event.

"It's an honour to welcome you to this significant milestone in our collective effort to create a safer and more secure digital Ghana. Today's launch of the Safer Digital Ghana Campaign marks not just the beginning of an initiative, but a strong reaffirmation of our national commitment to digital safety, responsible online behaviour, and the protection of all citizens in the digital space," he stated.

The increase in mobile connectivity is fueling innovation across various sectors, including finance, healthcare, education, and entertainment.

Agbeti reflected on the evolution of technology, stating, "From the invention of the telephone in 1876 to the development of mobile phones in 1973 and the rise of the internet in 1983, we see how profoundly these innovations have reshaped communication and every aspect of our lives."

With greater access to smartphones and affordable data plans, more Ghanaians are embracing the digital world, leading to significant social and economic impacts.

"Cybersecurity is not just the responsibility of governments or technology experts; it is the responsibility of everyone. Every child with a smartphone, every entrepreneur managing an online business, and every public servant using digital systems must be equipped with the knowledge to navigate cybersecurity safely. The government remains committed to enabling cybersecurity development and will work with stakeholders to create the necessary awareness and structures," Agbeti further noted.

This digital transformation underscores the importance of investing in infrastructure and digital literacy programs to ensure all citizens can benefit from the opportunities presented by the mobile revolution.

"Through various channels, radio, television, newspapers, billboards, digital platforms, and community engagements, the Safer Digital Ghana Campaign will demystify cyber threats and empower Ghanaians to take proactive safety measures," he remarked.

As Ghana continues to embrace technology, the future looks bright for a digitally empowered nation.

"The Safer Digital Ghana Campaign, implemented by the Cyber Security Authority with support from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations under the Ghana Digital Acceleration Project, is a strategic national response expected to foster a culture of cyber hygiene, resilience, and digital responsibility through widespread awareness and education," he added.

"The nationwide campaign will cover all 16 regions of the country, using multiple languages and formats to reach Ghanaians from all walks of life. It will focus on four main target audiences: children, the general public, businesses, and government institutions.

"The campaign will equip children and the public with safe internet practices, online privacy, and digital citizenship; guide businesses in securing their infrastructure and data; and support government institutions in strengthening their cybersecurity frameworks," Agbeti said.
