Organised Labour has called for a meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to discuss pressing issues surrounding the operations of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

In light of recent reports indicating SSNIT's projected inability to pay pensions beyond 2026 and its decision to divest shares in four hotels, Organised Labour has voiced grave concerns. The group emphasizes the necessity for urgent solutions to safeguard the welfare of workers reliant on SSNIT.

Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), emphasized the significance of addressing these concerns collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders.

"We are raising very important issues, and we are an important stakeholder," stated Dr. Baah. "I mean; they can’t ignore our concerns."

Assuring workers across the nation, Dr. Baah reiterated the commitment to ensuring that SSNIT fulfills its obligations to pay pensions upon retirement.

He underscored the importance of convening with the president to tackle these pressing matters.

“We are raising very important issues and we are an important stakeholder. I mean, they can’t ignore our concerns. I would like to assure all workers in this country that SSNIT is going to pay their pension when they retire.”

Dr. Baah expressed confidence in the potential for collaboration among the president, Organised Labour, the SSNIT board, the Ministry of Employment, responsible for pensions, and the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) to address the challenges facing SSNIT.

“That is why we want to meet the president because we have issues to address. And I am very confident that between the president, we, Organized Labour, the board, the Ministry of Employment, which is also in charge of pensions and NPRA, we come together, we will make sure SSNIT is running as expected,” he said.
