The Okada Riders Association of Ghana (ORAG) has commended the government and the Ministry of Transport for taking a major step toward the legalisation and regulation of 'okada' operations in the country.

In a press statement dated December 11, 2025, ORAG expressed deep appreciation to the government, the Director of Transport, and the Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, for fulfilling their campaign promise with the laying of the 'Okada' Legalisation Bill before Parliament on December 10, 2025.

ORAG described the development as a “significant milestone” and a crucial step toward formalising the 'okada' sector. The Association acknowledged that although the process has taken time, it required multiple stages and could not have been completed instantly.

The Association also applauded authorities for following due process and highlighted the upcoming 21-day maturity period, during which the bill will undergo detailed parliamentary scrutiny.

ORAG urged lawmakers across the political divide to support the bill, emphasising the vital role 'okada' riders play in Ghana’s transportation system and the benefits that legalisation would bring to communities nationwide.

The statement reaffirmed the Association’s readiness to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the law and the promotion of road safety once the bill is passed.

The press release was jointly signed by Michael Kofi Owusu (National President), Evans Waja (National PRO) and Adande Kojo (National Secretary).

ORAG concluded by expressing optimism that legalisation will improve the livelihoods of riders, enhance regulation, and contribute to safer transport services across the country.
