No power outages during Christmas - Amewu assures

The Minister for Energy, John-Peter Amewu, has assured Ghanaians that there will be no power outages during the yuletide.

He said the Ministry wants Ghanaians to have a joyful Christmas, hence, it is working seriously to ensure that there is steady supply of power during and after the yuletide.

"We expect the Christmas to be very joyful for everybody and we are working seriously to make sure that there is no interruptions in power supply," he posited.

"I don't want intermittent slap," he added.

The Energy Minister gave the assurance when he paid a working visit to Aboadze in the Western Region to inspect some ongoing projects in the area.

The Minister and his entourage visited Aboadze Thermal Power, Amandi, ENI Gas terminal site, as well as Western Naval Base where preparation works for relocation of Karpower, to assess the progress of work on the ongoing gas pipeline which would be connected to the Karpowership next year.

Amewu, who expressed satisfaction about the progress of work, however, wished the project would be completed earlier than scheduled, noting that the country was spending so much money on heavy fuel in order to keep Karpower, which is currently at the Tema Fishing Harbour, to run.

On his part, Boaz Lavy, General Manager of Amandi Energy, also noted that Ghana stands to gain more when Karpower is relocated to Takoradi.

He assured their commitment to speedying up the ongoing works on the gas pipeline to enable the relocation of Karpower from Tema to Takoradi, in order to get closer to the gas supply sub-station.

Amandi Company Limited is also expected to add 200 megawatts of power, in addition to the 450 megawatts of power supplied by Karpower.
