Nissan coming to Ghana after VW – Alan Kyerematen

Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, has revealed that automobile giant, Nissan Motor Company Limited, is in advanced discussions to build an assembly plant in Ghana.

"We have added the automobile industry into our key initiatives to move the industrial transformation of this country but people were doubting.

“I tell you we have received a massive response from the private sector after we sent the strong signal of industrialising the economy," Mr Kyerematen said, adding: "Look at the kind of proposals we are getting from big international companies when we kick-started the agenda, VW has already signed the MoU and the latest to join is Nissan [and] far advanced with discussion to establish in Ghana.”

Mr Kyerematen was speaking at the ongoing Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition in Accra, on the theme: “International partnerships for value-added industrial and local content development”.

He highlighted the achievement of the ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda being pursued by the Akufo-Addo government, saying it is hinged on a vibrant private sector.

Mr Kyerematen also used the platform to woo investors into Ghana to boost the economy and create more jobs.
